"A Tree Grows Through It"

That boat's been there for some time, it seems. Expect to put a new engine in it. An alternative might be to create a new transom and turn it into an outboard boat. I'd be willing to bet pretty much any amount that the engine and I/O drive are hopeless.

No, no...

The tree grows "out" of it. ;):D

The thought of a new transom and an outboard boat has crossed my mind, how much engine would I want to be looking at for this size hull?

to the right Starcraft guy (ME!!!) that HULL...Hull alone mind you would be worth up to the 750.00 mentioned.

I'd get her for as LITTLE as possible, offer 300 bucks and see what happens.
There will be a LOT of hard work involved, deck, transom, wiring..

Good luck, let us know what you do..

It's nice to see someone sees the same value in the hull that I do!

As cheap as possible is my goal here, I know it will be lots of work if (when?) I get her home, but I do have a boat right now so this would be a long term project.

I have a saw and failing that he has a bulldozer I could borrow to get it out... ;)

That I don't know. 150 would probably push it along at about the same pace as what's in it. But, then, I don't know what's in it. I suspect that there may have been an outboard model of that hull. You might look that up and see what it's max hp was. It would be a pretty good solution to the whole thing, and probably wouldn't cost any more than replacing the current powerplant and I/O.

Edit to add:

I did some checking and Starcraft did make a 22' Chieftain in outboard style in 1978. Max HP was 150. About what I thought. You can see some info at the link below:

Iboats has basic specs on just about everything, but it's hard to get to. In fact, I have no idea how to access this info, except via a Google search for the year maker and model.

That hull is gorgeous. I'd buy it. Bummer about the 470. I'd put a complete 4.3 Mercruiser system in it that I'd hopefully find in a basket case donor boat :p
