I like fall too except for the fact that winter will shortly follow.... That's why I really like early spring(melting snow and running water), because I know summer is just around the corner... For the most part we're past peak colors.......

Been sort of an odd Fall for color. We are almost to Peak in some places down here in the Kettle.....by my house we were really colorful a week and half ago, and I drove out to the Dells last week and it was still green.

It has been odd. The leaves even around my property aren't changing all at once like the usually do. We have trees that have dropped most of their leaves and others that are still green, like poplars..... Although some of those have fully changed too. Screwy..... I have a couple sugar maples in the yard that are just changing and a silver maple that's all done.....
Driving home fromDC last week, right around the PA state line the colors were just starting and very vivid. Then, about 30 miles from home all went bland. Lack of rain is keeping us drab. Half our leaves are down and the other half a brownish green ... Not a pretty fall in this little pocket.

My parents have 3 Silver Maples that seem to always be the last to change. It isn't uncommon for the rest of the trees in the neighborhood to be mostly without leaves before they change.....then they seem to change and fall very quickly.....many times on top of snow that has already fallen.
The fall colors have been pretty disappointing this year. Shot this coming out of Fremont, WI on the Wolf River Sept 29. As you can see, not a lot of color.
For the most part we have birch, poplar (sp?) and cotton wood which just go yellow and fall off, but our two maples are a glorious red and purple right now.
The only other thing we have that changes colour and drops is the needles from our larch trees, looks like a fir, spruce, pine????, just doesn't behave like one.
Wimusky - Ready for the white stuff this week? I saw one projection with A LOT of snow....others with none. Best bet maybe a sloppy inch or two that will be gone soon enough.
