I pulled the plug wire and the knock was steady but not loud, I looked all over with a stethoscope tonight and finally found the noise on the engine mount above the coupler and could only hear it at about 2 grand rmp. then when you rev it you can here is clatter and stop. It must me a main hU?

It could be, but a main is usually a deep knock, not a clatter,,, I'm betting it's just a rod bearing.

I"m still thinking its the lifter. I'll tell you why, I put a used one in and tonight I been running it for about hour or hour and a half, when I shut it down, go back and start it up its not so bad, 4-5 times now and every time it isn't so bad, this last time I let it sit for a good 30 minutes and started it and it was almost gone at rev and at start up, could this be the replacement lifter is starting to get with the engine? It's weird, I wish I knew a great mechanic that could tell me just what is going on.

An easy way to possibly free up a stuck lifter is to drain the oil, replace with 5-30 oil AND 1 qt of Rislone AND a good new oil filter. Run the engine from idle up to 2500 rpms while varying the rpms. Do this for a couple of days and if it is a lifter often times this will fix it.

maybe that's what it is doing, cause I just changed the oil with 40 weight and put in a liter of lucus oil treatment.
