So my mom was talking about the family and it's history, and one story caught my attention.
My great grandfather was born in Nova Scotia Canada, and in 1897 +- at the age of 13 he went to Boston to visit his brother and find work (life was much less complicated in those day's)
On his way down he stopped a runaway horse and carriage, I guess he impressed one of the soldiers that caught up to the buggy after he stopped it. The soldier was from the Connecticut Regiment, he was so impressed at the horse handling/stopping skills of old great grandpa, that he got him a job running horses and wagons from the north to Florida for the Spanish American war, that was going on or about to.
The one thing that that impressed me about this story was the fact that my great grandma was still collecting widow benifits right up to her death at the age of 102 in the year 1989.
Now thats a pension plan.

Re: family history

Very cool stuff! Write it down as much as you can find out so when you are 102 someone will be able to talk about it ;)
