I wonder what's going to happen when water hits that catalytic converter when it shouldn't?

Re: Far from a Chevy inline 6

Yea, it's a 5.7GiC-300 Volvo outdrive engine.
Here are what you are seeing.
A - Catalitic converters inside
B - 2 oxygen sensors
C - Aluminum manifolds with special coating.
D - Oil filter (paper insert, no can)
E - PS reservoir
F - Raw water pump

Don,
What is the output rating? Is it lower than the previous generation 5.7Gxi? MEFI 5 controller?

I had it wrong, it's a 5.7GiC-300 rated at 300 prop hp, The 5.0 is the GXiC rated at 270hp

Re: Far from a Chevy inline 6

yep, my license to steal just expanded, but I understand that in 09 all inboards/I/O)'s will have cats and meet even more stringent emissions. I hope to retire before our industry has to use a yearly sniff test on the exhaust.
I just wonder if the 8.1 with cats will injest as much water as the 8.1 without :).

The 8.1 J model has the new style PCU and has lost the cross over tube between the elbows.
Supposedly it doens't have the problem anymore with those changes. Time will tell.

Don,
Any idea on a cost for replacement of the manifolds/elbows/cats (not sure what to call them, as I don't know what half the cat is in) Retail parts only.
