Faria Fuel gauge on Scout 175 reads Full with ignition on

When the key is turned to ignition the fuel guage shows full. The tank is not close to full of fuel. I tested the sending unit and it reads 32.4 ohms with the float all the way down and 30.8 ohms with the float all the way up. I assume the sending unit is ok. I bought a new Teleflex Morse fuel guage (Part # 53213P) at Boaters World. I connected it, I believe properly, and the guage shows full when the ignition is turned on. On the side of the new guage package it reads for Code F (240-33 ohm), maybe I need a different guage. Thanks for any guidance.

You need the sender to match the gauge. But if it's going to full, that would indicate the send wire is grounded somewhere from the tank to the gauge. Gauges will show full when you ground the send wire at the tank with the ignition in the on position...This is one way to test a gauge. Here's a link to teleflex site for troubleshooting: Look under Troubleshooting Guides: At Fuel Systems:

Something is wrong with your resistance measurements. Senders are normally 30 - 240 ohm. You also need to disconnect the sender lead when making that measurement to get the gauge out of the circuit.

I bought a new sending unit and tested it with the ohm meter and the new sending unit reads between 30-240 ohms. I installed it in the boat with the original fuel guage and wiring. Now it reads correctly. Thanks for all the help!
