faria tach experts please help.

hi again everyone. i just got a faria coral tach pn tc9036a. the guy said it will work for 20 pole stators. the instructions say it wont. there is a selecter switch.

1= 4 pole
2= 6 pole
3= 8 pole
4= 10 pole
5= 12 pole
6= ??????

nothing in the instructions refers to the setting 6. i figure one of two things.

1- the instructions are new and the tach is old and still works on setting 6 for 20 pole stators

2- faria decided to discontinue the internal workings of the 20 pole setting but uses the same mold for the body of the tach, leaving a non working 6 setting.

anyone have any info for me? the dealers around here are not all that knowledgeable. thanks

You seem to be knowledgeable about tachs. Maybe the boating gods can send soem good karma your way for helping me.

I have a 1991, 35hp Force that I want to wire for a Faria euro-style tach. There is a wire on the terminal bar of the side of the motor mount, running forward to the controls, but there is no wire from the terminal bar to the engine itself. Where might one hook a wire to get a tach signal?

purple should be your tach wire on the engine.

I have the pruple wire from the gauge, to the controls, back to the engine, but it goes nowhere once at the engine. What does the puprle wire hook to on the engine?

On the wiring diagram for your year and model it shows that it just connects into what looks like a spade panel on your engine. If your having a hard time locating it ill try and scan and send a wiring diagram for you. Should really get a manual to refer to though.
