I bought a Faria marine tacho, and tried to hook it up on my Mercury 500 (50 hp) from 1975 (Belgian made). I hooked it on a signal point on the switchbox in the motor (blue point), but nothing happened. The engine is not wired to the battery, but I connected the battery to the tacho instead. Could this be the reason for nonworking?

Run your POS and NEG to the battery - but get the SIGNAL from one of the yellow legs of the stator.

-W

Sorry, no stator, and no electricity producing on board. Could it be that I need an older type of the tacho, since it is 30 yrs old engine?
