hey fellas,
I have a 73' model 85 hrse Evinrude. (model#85393m) This motor is on 90' model skeeter bass boat. We just bought the boat and so we are not very familiar with it. We were told the motor was much newer but to our stupidity we learned it wasnt.. So, obviously the controls on this boat wouldnt work for the older motor.. or so im guessing. Looks like different controls not factory. couple of ? here....
there is no fast idle/warm-up "lever".. when u push the key in, it does engage a primer on the motor.. is this all there is for warm up purposes or are we missing something? like a lever? i read on the FAQ to "pull shifter out on single lever controls, to keep in neutral, and move throttle forward". cant seem to do that either or im not holding my mouth right one? We are having a terrible time with cold starts
last question:
the steering cable bolt that connects to the motor itself,... broke.. where can i find replacement. Have searched all over and cant seem to find anything to do with steering.. Its the bolt on the steering rod that attaches straight to the motor.. only bolt holding motor in place...
Thanks guys, im new here but enjoy reading posts and learning a thing or two...
any advice accepted!!

I think you needs some pics before we can help you. Are they evinrude controls? 2 lever or one. Again pictures say a thousand words.

All control boxes/setups have a fast idle warm up control. Describe your throttler control unit in detail.

Re: fast idle or warm up ?

figured it out guys thanks a million!! still having trouble locating a steering bolt? The bolt that connects the steering rod to the motor housing itself.. Looks like it "might" be a bolt with a ball on the end of it. I cant seem to find anyplace that has this information....
again all help is certainly appreciated..
ps. the control is a single lever. You have to push a button (that was broke) to allow you to throttle it with out engaging gears.. thanks guys for your help!
