Fast Idle Wont Work on Quicksilver Control

I have a 1985 Mariner 40EL on a Landau Pontoon Boat with a Quicksilver Side mount controls. The controls work great except the Fast Idle Button. I have taken the controls off the boat and tried to lubricate the area of the fast idle button with no help.

Unfortunately I have not been able to find a used control for replacement. My mechanic says he can fix but is booked up through July.

Can anyone tell me how to fix?

If it's what they call a modular (stampe metal) there are kits avialabe for repair but they controls are very hard to work on, even with a good manual. So try to find anouther service shop

I had the same problem.
You can fix it without having to replace any parts but you need strong mechanical diagnosis and machining skills.
There is a ball bearing that wears a rut in a recess on the throttle only shaft, as I remember and you need to break out the files and smooth out the rut on the shaft and make the angle less steep and file the bottom of the shaft barrel to gain extra travel to compensate.
I did it and it works great but it did take a bit of trial and error to get it right.
However you could just order a new shaft.

That the kit it's a new button and ramp assm. The ramp is a harder materal so you don't have the keep filing as annual maintenance.

Thanks for the info, can anyone tell me how and where to find the kit? I cannot seem to find any numbers on the control itself so I am unsure of the model number.

can anyone provide a diagram as to how the ball bearings go into the fast ilde shaft?
