What is the best way to tell if you have lean condition? by checking the plugs? Motor runs really good, but I want to make sure that its not on the lean side...

thanks

do you mean 1 cylinder or the engine as a whole? digital pyrometer will tell you how hot each cylinder is, if 1 is hotter than the others that one is lean. you also enrichen the motor while running,if its lean it will run stronger,if its the right mixture,it will bog.what makes you think its lean?

The proper way to check for correct fuel-air mixture is to put in a new set of plugs. Run the boat up to high speed for a few minutes and then kill motor (at high throttle setting). Now compare plugs to each other and see if all are colored light to dark brown and the same. White or green plugs indicate lean running or overheating. Clean pluigs can indicate water infiltration.

The practical way is to run the boat at high speed for a while, and then pull the plugs for comparison. Try to avoid idleing as much as possible.
