Re: fast trak replacment

If a fender from a Ford will not fit on a Chevy, it stands to reason that a T&T unit from a Yamaha will not fit a Johnson. (Unless you are a good metal fabricator of course!) :)

upinsmoke's comment is not the least bit helpful. If you do not know the answer you should not reply. The yamaha unit I saw on ebay appears to be the same as a fast trak. I would appreciate a knowlegable answer. Thanks.

Re: fast trak replacment

Sorry you took my comparison as a cheap shot. I was merely trying to point out that Yamaha and Johnson engineers did not accidentally (or on purpose) design a tim system that was directly interchangeable. I doubt there is anyone on this board that can give you a 100% guarantee that that swap would work without modification. But I would bet there are a bunch of folks that would tell you it won't. If the part was rediculously cheap, go for it. You can always resell it if it doesn't work. Why not check the multitude of salvage yards on the net (like Twin City Outboards) to get the correct pieces.
