Hello All

My father has picked up an outboard engine, he thinks its an Evinrude 18hp Fastwin - I'm having trouble identifying the exact model and year of manufacture. It has some information on the motor itself; here it is...

Revs: 4500-5000
Model No. J25BALCTE
Serial No. B018081

Outboard Marine
Belgium NV
Brugge
Belgium

Can anybody tell me the exact make, model and year of manufacture and also how easy and where to get stuff like parts and user manuals (if they still make them!) - any web resources would be usefull.

Thanks

It's not a Fastwin. For starters, it's not even an Evinrude...
It is a 25hp Johnson, 1983 modelyear.
You can go here for parts lists:

EDIT: deleted forbidden commercial link to BRP.com

Aftermarket manuals can be had through several sources, including here at iboats, plus Amazon, etc.

My guess is it has a Johnson mounting bracket and/or leg and an Evinrude powerhead. The cowl(hood) appears to be circa 1967.Assuming not repainted the powerhead is obviously Evinrude.Leg also appears to be Evunrude painted black.Perhaps the tag was added from another motor entirely.Evinrude begins E25 Johnson J25.

That tag is definately not to that motor. The colour under the black paint is Johnson green and not the blue/grey of a 1983 Evinrude. I'd agree its a 1960's Evinrude. My guess is its a 1966 since the cowl is white and has that particular fastwin emblem on the back.

I've been doing a little research too and have also come to the same conclusion that the bottom half is definately not evinrude (or at least the tag isn't) - however as you can see from the pictures we do need a good few parts for the evinrude top half - does anyone know how to find out exactly what model and year evinrude it is; are there any numbers tucked away that I could look for, even if I've got to disassemble it; and where I could source a good parts/service manual (and good supplier of parts too)

There should be a plug on the size of the motor about the size and colour of a quarter with a number on it. What does is that number(s).
