Just got one for cheap
has electric start but no ignition switch
what type of ignition switch will work
my guess is some sort of 3 wire deal,
I have this box

the thick black wire hooks to motor
then theres a + and - wire
then the fuse wire looks to be a + power wire to run lights ect...
then there are 3 wires coming from the box 2 black and one tan(what are these?
Regards,
Slipper

Re: Fat Fitty question

There should be a long harness going to the ignition switch on the dash. It would have 5 or 6 wires depending on year of motor and whether it has a generator. One is a 12 volt power wire from the large solenoid post where the battery connects; then a wire from the small terminal of the solenoid (next to the large battery terminal) which goes to the starter switch or starter button. Third wire goes to the choke switch. Then two black wires which are the kill switch circuit. A 6th wire would go to the ammeter if you had a generator.

Re: Fat Fitty question

would the 5-6 wires come from the motor or the box?

They come from the junction box and go to the ignition switch/choke on the dash. From your pic, it looks like you have the proper harness going to the motor, but not the proper harness going to the switch - looks like just a stray wire here and there. You need to open up the box and see how everything is hooked up inside.
