1997 Johnson 175, Ocean Runner ? Faulty Sensor? I had some extensive work done on this engine including having the carbs re-built, the head o-rings replaced, the VRO pump removed and a new fuel pump and lines installed. Basically repaired the fuel system from tank to carbs. The engine has run great with the exception of the ?Check Engine? alarm going off. The mechanic said don?t worry about it, it is just a bad sensor. The Alarm usually went off at 4200 RPMs and whenever the hull hit a bump in the water like a wake and jarred the boat a bit.
The other gauges (temperature), Hot, Water pressure and so forth appear to be within range. A recommendation was to disconnect the sensor so that it would not trip the alarm or trip the power-pak and see if that fixed the problem (problem assumed to be faulty sensor). If so, then we replace the faulty sensor. My concern is running the boat without this warning sensor. Don?t want to risk burning up the motor. Any advise is much appreciated.
