Ok...I wanted to be the first to post on diving.

I am a member of the South Shore Neptunes out of Quincy, MA. We boat dive "most" Sundays thoughout the summer. The main objective is usually lobsters so we dive at:

City of Salsbury Wreck/Graves Light
Shag Rock
Outer Brewster Island

Anybody out there dive New England waters? And where do you dive and why?

ps...anybody looking for a dive partner...feel free to message me.

Re: Favorite Dive Spots

I would love to go diving with yall, but the drive would kill me :%. I'm just a rec diver and mostly dive from the beach. My favorite spot from a boat is the USS Mass in Pensacola Pass. Its in 27' of water so bottom time is great. Ya have to dive either hi or low tide cause of the bad current in-between. I cant wait to dive the Oriskany later this summer.

I love diving the Keys here in Florida, go there whenever possible and go for lobster sport season every year...YUMMM! I live in St. Petersburg, so I frequently dive the artificial reefs and wrecks around here in the Gulf of Mexico. Recently went to Cozumel, and thoroughly enjoyed the clear waters around the island.

Anyone dive in inland lakes eg. Lake of the Ozarks. Is it feasible or is visibility not good enough?

Wow a new forum! We have a lake in N.W. S. Carolina called Jocassee that we dive. Visibility can be over 40 ft. I call it an underwater tourist trap as someone has sunk all kinds of interesting junk in it for divers to explore.

I have dove in freshwater lakes/quarries etc. I just enjoy the ocean...for some reason...freshwater seems sooo...slimy. I was going to try a local lake that is 75 feet deep max...I wanted to take a look around and see where are the good fishing spots are 8)

JMW you sound like me. I tell my non diving buddies that I just dive to scout for fish. You can learn alot about how fish relate to cover first hand.

I dive all of Florida and some of the caribbean. prefer the warmer waters but I am not afraid of that cold water as long as it is not covered with ice.

I have dove KeyLargo for many years and have taken my share of lobsters but living in Central Florida I tend to hit the springs quite often.

We do get offshore Daytona for some big lobster in the 8-10lb. range but thats only when weather is great.8)

Most beautiful diving I did was in Indonesia. Second best is the Red Sea at southern Egypt. Here in Holland I do my diving in peatcolored water, viz. 3-4 meters max. Makes diving in the Red Sea a piece of cake actually, although you have to be very careful about your buoancy .

Re: Favorite Dive Spots

did a shark dive in the bahamans.. man that water is warm.. and you can see forever... it was a pretty cool experience.. i know staged and all that.. and unnatural.. but first dive was more natural we dove down and sharks just swam around the area.. sort of followed us.. swam between us etc..

then we came up.. 2nd dive was cool too.. the sharks were swarming the boat so it was like ya had to be careful not to jump in right on top of one of em..

pretty fun experience all around

Re: Favorite Dive Spots

I dove once in the Bahama and twice in the FLorida Keys...I still am baffled that everybody else on the boat was cold and had to rent wet suits...sheesh..72* water temp!!! That's bath water. I got certified in 42* water...and usually dive (with wetsuit) in 55*-60* water.

I have to admit it...those three dives were the absolute best in my life...100+ feet visibilty...so much color...so much life...absoltely amazing!

I dove Catalina Island last fall. Felt like the Michelin Man in that 7 mil wetsuit! The kelp forest was really cool. I prefer the beautiful warm waters down south though! The above picture was taken in Cozumel this May. Did a 120' reef dive that was like being in an aquarium. Amazing visibility!

Re: Favorite Dive Spots

I,m new to this forum but not too new to diving as it were. I live on the other side and have dove Catalina and the neighboring Channel Islands tons of times. My favorite place is San Clemente Island, the water is a bit cooler on this side but it's where I learned and after enjoying many other types of diving its still my favorite place. The kelp of So Cal. is for me home.

Studlymandingo,

I have a new to me boat that looks alot like yours. Custom 24' CC, 7ft beam. Its a fast hull, but pretty tippy. Do you dive off that boat?

I don't have a ladder figured out yet, interested in some ideas.

I live in Boston, boat mainly in RI. Got into boats, and now fishing has really taken over my dive time. I would love to start diving again, like the idea of diving at my favorite fishing holes to check out the bottom.

Nice thread.
