I am going to throw out two to start:

For a compilation type deal we love the Soundtrack to Home Alone.

For a single song, I love the single Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses. If you don't recognize it, you may have heard it as it is often used as bumper music on radio programs this time of year, I just heard it on the Bill O'Reily show . . . I absolutely love the Bass line. stevieray you out there?

BTW, no need to comment on O'Reilly, that may have been the second time I have even heard his show. My main dude is on vacation so I was surfing.

The Boss doing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" is a fave. I can just picture Clarence Clemons coming out in the red suit & wailing sax!

Re: Favorite Xmas Music

Beatles "So This Is Christmas" is my favorite.
Madonna "Santa Baby" is the best version. Others have tried, but none as good...or close.
No artist preference "I'll Be Home For Christmas".
And any hymnal types by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

And Handel's Messiah, the whole blessed thing. Preferably by the MTC.

The old Carpenter's stuff is good too.

I've always liked Winter Wonderland. My favorite version is by the Eurythmics although I just saw it on a bottom five xmas song list thing.

I have been "singing" that tune all day as I worked around the yard in near 70 degree weather. The temp will get down to below freezing tonight but when it does the sun usually shines all day. The worst is when the fog rolls in and stays a week at a time. I love the churchy songs with a full chourus and hold Blue Christmas very dear. The one that moves me the most is I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day. Thanks for asking QC.

My ABSOLUTE favorite has to be the "Linus & Lucy" piano theme by Vince Guaraldi. It's in the Charlie Brown Christmas show (when the kids are dancing around on the stage waiting for director Charlie to take charge of the play). That tune connects me to Christmas more than any other ever will.

Re: Favorite Xmas Music

personally I'm kind of partial to the "Gloria" from Mozarts "Twelfth Mass", and "The Holly and the Ivy", have a Kings College Choir, Cambridge England recording of it that sort of signals the Christmas season for me.

stevieray that charlie brown Christmas special is chock full of some pretty good original music - but the network didn't like it, almost didn't air it. Did you catch this npr story about it?
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6545283 click on "listen", about a 6:30 story - the theme you mentioned is included in the clip

To be honest, I like the old Christmas music my Mom used to play from Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Al Hirt. I also like hearing all the Catholic Christmas carols. I have to admit however, Alan Jackson has a great Christmas CD.

[colour=blue]I'm kind of old fashion, my CD tray is stacked with Frank, Dean, Nat and Bing - all Christmas albums!!

WillyB, The Beatles had nothing to do with that song, it was released by John and Yoko. It's title was 'Happy Christmas, war is over'.

Album - "Christmas Extraordinaire" Mannheim Steamroller
Single - "Silent Night" Stevie Nicks, absolutely the best rendition of "Silent Night" I know.
