Fax Spam (RANT!!)

Y'all get junk faxes? I seem to be the recipient of a lot of junk faxes. Mostly mortgage companies promising low % rates. I have the sneaking suspicion that the # they give you at the bottom of the page to supposedly remove your # from their list, just proves to them that there is actually a person on the recieving end...so the send MORE!!! Anyone know of any tip/hints to stop them from wasting a ream of my paper a month!!??!?! (OK maybe not quite that much)<br />Thanks for putting up with my long post/rant.<br /><br />Dave

Hook your fax to your 'puter and only print out what you want to.

Send 'em the DEATH FAX. We used to have this happen all of the time at my office. Lunch menus, mortgage loans, Viagra ads. 10 or 15 faxes a day. Calling the senders and telling them to stop had no effect. Manager was always yelling paper is expensive, toner is more expensive. Yep...your toner and THEIRS. So kill their toner. I believe another member here at iBoats came up with this. Maybe Bondo? Take a piece of paper. Color it totally black with a marker. Then send it repeatedly to the sender that keeps sending you junk faxes. Believe me after they get enough of them from you and realize what toner costs they will fax or call you back. And BEG you to STOP! : D

I got a fax machine that blocks numbers. My fax spam has decreased 300%!

except that the place sending stuff like that isn't a fax machine, it's a computer hooked to a phone line. They don't have someone standing there feeding stuff through a real machine.

#1 In the state of Florida, sending unsolicited faxes is illegal.... <br /><br />There is a law found in s.365.1657, Florida statutes, that prohibits sending an unsolicited advertisement by fax machine within the state.... The law is enforced by the State office of the Attorney General... Mail those faxes to the Attorney General, and they will take action... <br /><br /> http://myfloridalegal.com/ <br /><br />If that does'nt work.... BLACK FAX LOOP!... <br /><br />Another tip that's worked for me... I put the fax machine on a timer to shut it off at night when most of the offending faxes seem to be sent....

Faxes. What a quaint technology. With scanners and e-mail, why would anyone use fax??

This is:<br /><br />Take several sheets of paper and carefully tape them end to end.<br /><br />Take the thickest marker you can find, and scrawl your message across this long sheet, something like " DO NOT SEND ME ANY MORE FAXES !!!!!"<br /><br />Fax to intended recipient... BUT<br /><br />As the fax begins to scan, CAREFULLY TAPE THE TWO ENDS TOGETHER, FORMING A LOOP.<br /><br />Come back to your fax machine after lunch and disassemble.<br /><br />I did this several years ago when somebody decided that my home phone humber was a fax machine. I started getting fax machine calls between 2AM & 4 AM. Of course, you cannot yell at the fax machine to stop, and if you hang up, it just redials.<br /><br />I borrowed a fax machine from work after 3 days of this, so I could receive the fax & get the number.<br /><br />My note politely described the situation in detail and my opinion of being awakened at zero-dark-hundred hours by a #$%^*&()%^@# machine.<br /><br />Left it running until I got up in the morning...<br />Never happened again!
