I am terrible at buying used boats but have learnt by getting burnt a few times, LOL. It was my feeling that buying a boat from a "reputable" dealer is much safer than one from the guy down the street and as such would not get a survey. I bet if he were to buy the boat (very nice boat by the way) the dealer would put a warranty on it even if only for the first summer or even the first 20 hours.

One step further I would walk from the deal if the dealer did not warrantee the boat for a period of time. Once again 15-20 hours sounds reasonable.

I am in the SW corner of Lake Erie and we have plenty of surveyors for all size boats, didn't think they would become scarce in other parts of the country. As a boater for more than 50 yrs I always did my own survey but then again I worked for a marina for quite a few years so when a newby is looking for their first boat or someone not well educated on boats I always recommend a complete survey on older boats. Way to many unpleasant surprises to be had out there.

I'm on the North shore of Erie airshot. When I said many Marina's here I was including a few outside my county of Haldimand Ontario. In Haldimand we have exactly 2 and one of which only does service starting this year to existing customers only. I have to go out of the county 30 miles from home to the Marina I trust and for parts. Around 1200 square miles and 45,000 residence. And 3 public ramps that are free and one out of service for 3 years now in 60 miles of shoreline and 3 private ramps. Along the Niagara River on the US side you can't swing a cat without hitting a Marina and a ramp. Canada eh.

Thanks for all the input..... Well I went and looked at it and I brought it home, very clean only a few dock scrapes that took some of the decal sticker off, motor only has 5 hrs on it as original
owner tried to winterize it him self. also new water pump... I'll be the second owner, only a few little things that need attention like plate for switches and ignition keyy is loose, trim indicator not working from broken wire, other than that all good. dealer also gave me a 20 hr warranty on motor.

Twenty hours is plenty to figure out if the motor is going to run. Congratulations. Looks mighty nice. Always wished for a fiberglass bucket in my boat instead of a fiberglass over wood floor. That boat should last forever.

My boat is 2 years old, this boat is 18 years old and your boat looks every bit as new and contemporary as mine. Love the look of it and a 20 hour warrantee means the dealer is sticking behind the boat. I think you made a good purchase.

One question though now that I see your new pictures - did you get to test drive it? The registration stickers expired 3 years ago.

Here in Canada the boat registration will last for ten years and then all you need to do is confirm you still have the boat and it does not cost anything. I think here all they want is a name and address to send the bill to if you sink your boat.

no I didnt take it for a test drive, I did tho started it up and put it through the gears . im not worried as the dealer said and is in writing that if their is any problem he will take care of it up to 20 hours.

Here in MN it costs $45 every 3 years and droving around with expired tags costs more than the tags.
