Re: Feels like rolling over.

Taking the hydrofoil off this weekend to see if there is a change. I took the boat out by myself yesterday to see if maybe it only did it under pulling or passenger capacity but I still had the same results.

Thanks for all of the advice everyone....if this doesnt work I think I will have someone put the tabs on for me.

tabs ruin a wakeboarding wake, they will make it wash and flatten

Taking the Hydrofoil off didnt make a huge difference, but I could tell that it was better. Thanks for the advice everyone.

**Note** It didnt take my boat any longer to come onto plane, so I think I will leave it off.

Re: Feels like rolling over.

The original post described what happens to all outdrive (outboard or I/O) boats. If you don't like my explanation how about giving some input of your own. Or are you just trying to start something???

109jb, funny I thought the exact same thing you did. We have to make a series of assumptions or continue to ask OP's questions since the information isn't made readily available. I see a lot of assumptions made that there is a hydrofoil, but not many people asking if there is one.

We used to have an old Century Riviera 5meter that you could bury the rub rail and almost get water up over the windshield on LH turns and you could barely touch the water with your hand on RH turns. There were no tabs or hydofoils on that boat either. It simply had to do with the turn and pitch of the prop.

Short Answer, Easy solution......don't make such sharp turns at high speed. Ease back on the throttle and make your left-hand turn more gradual. I suspect the key here a skier/ boarder/tuber goes down and we're making 'Cyprus Gardens' turns like it's a Master Craft. I suspect there is some coxswainship which is also at play here.

We live and we learn......can't we all just get along???

Could the tab on the drive help if adjusted?

Not really, the trim tab under the cav-plate is designed to keep the boat tracking straight (generally at cruise rpm) by redirecting the thrust slightly to the right to offset the natural tendency of a clockwise rotating prop (as see from the back) to make the boat lean and thus turn left. However, having said that it will help a little but do not over do it as it's easy to hydrodynamically stall the tab (anything more than 10 degrees is generally too much and three to five degrees is more usual). Also many tabs are also anodes so the condition of the tab's surface and its shape can be influencial on its effectiveness. If it's chewed up, replace it.

What Grilling is experiencing (if it's a really pronounced roll left tendency rather than the normal slightly "enhanced" rate of roll to the left compared to the right under power) could be a twisted hull, it could be something as simple as a dent or damaged chine - we don't know that, however we do know that removing the foil has helped a little. Next step is to establish the hull and chines are straight and dent-free, the motor trim is correct for the conditions (too much down trim can exacerbate the left rolling tendency especially with a hydrofoil fitted) and if there's nothing untoward to maybe try trim tabs. All boats are different, even supposedly identical hulls from the same manufacturer can exhibit different ride/roll rate/holeshot/top speed etc tendencies due to differences in weight distribution/surface condition/trim/motorigging/prop condition/accuracy of maunfacture etc. Good luck.
