Re: Fees for the lake or river

99% of my boating is on a corp managed lake or the missiouri river. Both free at the public ramps. The only private ramp I use (on the missouri) is $300/season, but well worth it. The frustration of not having to deal with the idiots at the public ramp is worth it.

I boat to fish. And like hunting, if you add up the total cost of a pound of either fish or wild game, it is like a thousand dollars a pound. So cost isn't usually figured into the cost per pound results. It cost most everywhere I go to launch. But so does golf, and I live on a golf course and don't even play... So I try not to think of the launch cost even when I catch nothing for the day... Life is short and you most certainly can't take it with you, so spend it while you still can and enjoy!

My wife and I have discussed the fact that we must be rich based on the fact that we pay more for the fish we catch and eat than most wealthy people pay for caviar.

I've got to say some of y'all are making me sick with this free launch stuff lol. How are the lakes or rivers in those areas? I know it sucks to pay such high fees but the ramps are incredible, water levels rarely change (even in Lubbock), and very very little to now stumps or rocks to ding up your boat.

$35 for a yearly parking pass at the launch I use on Lake Minnetonka. There are some free launches, but this one is nice and has a lot of parking.

The ramp we use on the river is free and has a decent parking lot. They were rebuilding it last year, so maybe there will be a fee now.

For some reason the st croix river is one of the only body's of water around here that can get away with charging a lot. There a couple parks that have launches 0-$15 but the private marinas charge $20-$40

NC just put in 2 new facilities. No charge but I own an indoor dry slip.....
They are in the middle of building a 4 ramp one in Jacksonville, right across the river from the existing 2 ramps. The new one will have tons of parking.

I live on Grand Lake with a boat ramp 1/2 block down the road. Free Launch year round. I feel bad for those who have to pay to launch.

Up here most of the public launches are free unless you want to go into a provincial or federal park, and then you pay for the park entrance. At some of the in-town launches you have to pay for parking but there are others that are really nice that are totally free. The only draw back around here is that you have to pay a 90 cents per foot locking fee if you want to go into the next lake and back.
By the way smokingcrater, watching those idiots at the public ramps is a favorite pastime around here.

Two parks on the Ohio River are within ten miles of my house in Goshen, Ky (just north of Louisville). Both have free ramps and have fair numbers of truck/trailer parking spots. Facilities such as courtesy docks are poor. There are free ramps at Kentucky State Parks on large lakes in the state. Courtesy docks at the state parks vary from excellent to awful.

The only public ramp at which I've paid a fee was on Deep Creek Lake in Maryland. It was the best ramp I've ever used and well worth the fee.

$75 a year covers all State owned ramps. Otherwise, it varies from $3, before 6 am, to $10 a pop.

Free launching available on CA side of Colorado River, Parker strip. Never launched on AZ side, but appears to be free there also. Have only launched at campground I was staying at on Lake Havasu, fee included with camping. I know they charge for others but don't know how much.

I boat at Belton Lake, used to keep a wet slip until the marina at BLORA dried up the end of last year. Haven't gotten out to Stillhouse or Waco lake, but will soon.

The rivers are free, but its $5-10 at the lake depending on which state/county/Corp launch site is used.

Re: Fees for the lake or river

Most lakes around here are $20 to $25 to launch.
At the local harbors and bays you just pay $8 to park.
At our local lagoon (4 miles away) you pay $45 per launch ($25 to private launch ramp owner and $20 to the city).

Since the lagoon is so close, it is actually cheaper to boat there than the lakes (mostly about 60 miles away) when you take your tow vehicle's gas into account.
