It's late fifties, 14 ft. aluminum, stripped down. Need to know what motor and hp (used) to look for; a source for steering parts, cables, guages, etc. any treatment of the inside to seal, advice for flooring, etc. Appreciate you veteran runabout owners' advice for a beginner. thank you.

About 10 hp. 20 would make it fly. Be careful in adding too much stuff as it is alum and light and can easily become top heavy and you do not want that if you get in rough water with a lot of wind.....it happens when you least expect it....the weather.

I would leave it to the tiller handle and forget the remotes...boat is not that big and "stuff" can get in your way rather quickly.

Go to the repair section herein to read up on banging rivets back in and sealing leaks.

I started boating in Texas in the 50's and Lone Star was one of the premier alum. boat suppliers. Funny, they are still around....like Ford N series tractors.

Post a pic, I'd like to see her. I love old boats, kinda like old cars, they had more personality:)

look up "Tashasdaddy". As I recall he fished Florida. He had an alum boat of that vintage but I think it was 16'. He posted a lot and had a lot of pics of it You can see how he rigged his. There are lightweight dashes with steering out there which secure to the gunwale and one of the ribs in the floor. Nowadays they mount on the starboard side. Teleflex is the better steering system....beats the old cables and pulleys that were used in those days. You can surf the internet and get you an old cable box with 2 controls. Being 14' you could sit on the rear seat, drive the boat and when you needed to start the engine, just turn around and it's right there....within arm's reach.

I have a basic "stupid" question: as I look at outboard engines, nearly all have tillers, Can these be adapted (tiller control removed) so it can be remote/cable controlled from the dashboard and throttle controls at the drivers seat? Can even older outboards be used in this manner? This is a major question I need answered, Gentlemen. Thank you for the feedback. I will go pick up the boat in a few days, so thats why i'm doing all the research in preparation.

If it is the one I saw on craigslist you have a Lonestar Malibu. Same design from '58 to '63. It is rated for up to a maximum of 40 horsepower. Yahoo groups has a lonestar site setup with lots of pics. Go to ebay for steering parts and also check on the lonestar group for people who have extra parts they may be willing to part with. with a 30-35hp motor you should be able to max out at about 30mph. Great boats and built like tanks. The original brochure is here.

I dont think they put the year anywhere in the serial # and to my knowledge there is no database of serial #'s and year.
