I was coming in the channel at BlackPoint in Miami and noticed a brand new 25ft grady white going back and forth from the rocks to the other side(flats) When I got colser two very pretty ladies waved me over and asked if I knew anything about boats. I towed them away from the rocks and tied up, she said some horn was going off and the engine would not run more then 30 seconds. She told me she just got the boat from her ex-husband in a divorce! OUCH! I checked around and alas, she had no oil in the remote tank. She said what oil? What tank?
So I towed her in to the fuel dock and told her to get oil and I showed her where to put it and gave her a basic lesson on engine care (she had a brand new 250hp Yamaha) She insisted on buying me a drink at the dockside bar and while I was hanging with her freind she ran in the Ship Store then out to her boat to do the oil. They asked me to help them with the trailer since they had never done it before so of course I had to. When she started her engine, it started to smoke something awfull and conked out again, she restarted it and reved the engine to at least 3/4 throttle until I could hear this horrible noise from the engine. I shut it off and then I saw the empty oil cannisters, you guessed it, she put car oil in it. I towed her to the ramp and was sick to my stomach, that beautiful engine, that horrible smell, if her ex-husband only knew, its probably better that he doesnt. True Story...Mark

Re: Females and Boats

That's not a females and boats story, Mark. It's a new boater story. In fact, I've seen more male new boaters do stupid stuff than females. (Yes, I have noticed that male new boaters outnumber female new boaters about a bazillion to one.)

Why? For the same reason we wont ask directions. Usually women will seek out a knowledgable person to mentor them into becoming a boater. Men? No way, dude. Real men never ask advice about anything. . . until AFTER it hits the fan. Check out this site for evidence.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

In a hurry once I dumped the 2-stroke oil down my rod holder instead of into the gas fill! I noticed what I had done immidiatley and no damage was done.

Ditto J.B. I find, in my line of work, that women will listen more attentavily to instructions than men especially if it deals with machinery.

Men have pre conceived notions that they completely understand machinery-just be cause they're men. Men tend to think those new fangled warning bells and lights were put on there for idiots-not them. That's why you see them towing their $8,000.00 new outboard into the shop and try explain to the dealer why the inside of it looks like the inside of Chernobyl.
