I'm still getting things and money in line to complete my 77 Ranger Bass boat project. This coming summer my plan is to redo stringers,Transom, reglass ,Redeck,Remount the deck. Stage #2 Sand ,Paint, gelcoat.
What I would like to know is, If there were people out there that would check on things completed before moving to the next part. For a price $$$.
I am an Electrician/ Wood Worker for the last 22 yrs ,So I know my way around with tools and have all the tools to complete this project.
I think this will be fun to complete, I just like doing things once

If you know of anybody in the area that might be intrested, Please let me know. Thanks

By the time you buy all the material for a complete project like that, resin, cloth, plywood, carpet misscelanous stuff like, grinding disc, protective wear, sandpaper, paint, acetone, etc, etc. I've never got by for less than $1,000.00. But well worth it in my book. Can't really put an exact price out there too many variables.

Re: Fiberglass Guys in Colorado Springs Area

I've been researching things for over a yr. This forum is a vast wealth of knowledge and I am very thankful for. I will post my journeys with this project, Pic's as well as the up's and down's. I just tend to over think things. As I wrote in the begining thread I just like to have someone inspect for things I might have missed.
I am looking forward to talking to you all again and certainly enjoy any info i can get.
THANKS!! Scott

i gathered that from your first post scott.

with out being too forward....that just means you are just a little worried about doing it right and unsure of your self at this now game.......JUST LIKE WE ALL ARE/(WERE).

yeah.....its great to have a pro drop by and look....(lord knows if ondarvr hadn't come and pulled my head outta my azz for over thinking things...my boat still probably would have been in sections).

but what you have to remember is that boat building is simple....really simple....in the early days they used old pallet wood for stringers and chuncks of styrofoam for flotation.

from the pictures here......and the help you can get.... (dont worry if you think it is the most basic stupidest question...and we will all think you are a total dummy for asking) ...we ALL HAVE (had) THOSE QUESTIONS.

we are all glad to help:)

Re: Fiberglass Guys in Colorado Springs Area

just to add......

what you want to do is simple

gut the boat.....remove foam.

grind the very thin top layer off the old glass. (dont get crazy here....just till you get to glass....and if your boat is chopped strand (from a chopper gun) you are there in an instant. (dont get anal about a thin sliver of left over wood)

make your new transom.....put it in.....glass it.....drop in stringers....glass them....foam it and put in your deck.

read the link in my sig......forget about the extension stuff, (even tho it is a basic how to fix a hole in your boat)
i mean read it.....
it has the best discussions about every thing about boat building...it takes you from basics to pro tricks, to in depth discussions about how to fiberglass
