Fiberglass Help Needed

Hi all. I need a little knowledge or maybe some guidance on fiberglass repair. I have a 1970 Avenger low profile ski boat. I noticed a soft spot today where the seats attatch to the floor. I took out the seats and used a dremmel to cut away the glass that was holding the frame to the floor. No damage to hull thank god. But, as you have all guessed the plywood under the carpet was like wet paper machet. Now to the fun part. I know how to do the woodwork to fix the floor and stringers, but I have never done fiberglass before. Any help on it would be greatly appreciated. Also where do I get the stuff?

Welcome to iboats!<br /><br />I'm originally from Pocatello... I'm assuming that your Sun Valley is Idaho.<br /><br />Go through the boat restoration forum (where you posted this) and read the posts. Many people also have a shareaproject link by their signature, follow that link and read about their project.... much can be learned there.<br /><br />Good luck, post pictures too.

Like KRS said, there is a lot of info on that with share sites to boot. Duece, I replaced the floor in my '74 Avenger Mach I a few years ago. You can certainly search this forum for posts, however, I recommend you buy/borrow a book on runabout or small boat restoration. It will be more concise.<br /><br />BTW - my seat bases are fiberglassed to the floor in my boat. Normal fasteners(screws, brackets) would not hold up to the strain. Additionally, the stringers in my boat were fiberglassed, so the wood didn't rot. You might like to check yours to make sure they are not rotten. One final thought. My Avenger doesn't contain enough floatation to float the whole boat. It may have enough to float the bow straight up, but I am not really shure about that. Luckily where I use it is usually less than 16 feet deep!
