Fiberglass on this Feather Craft boat -WHY?

Just got a sweet 16ft Feather Craft boat but there is fiberglass on the entire bottom of the exterior hull from the rivets on down. Im worried about why someone would have done this and wondering if I should even attempt to grind it back down to the aluminum to look like every other Feather Craft I have ever seen?

1st thing to come to mind is corrosion. 2nd is leaking rivets. Not being a tinny owner I don't have any other clues. What I would like to know is how they got it to adhere to the aluminum without delamination. I guess epoxy would work but any flexing would usually cause it to peel. Only the fish can see it so...if it's not causing a problem I'd prolly leave it for now.

Thanks for the response Woodonglass. The fiberglass sure looks like its on there to stay but that being said, I haven't had it in the water yet so I hope I don't find out after a trip around the lake that its all peeling off and the rivets are leaking water in like crazy. Other m concerns about this fiberglass the boat is in great shape and Im excited to start polishing er up.
