Hello, I have a older Bayliner Capri fiberglass boat that has a few issues that I would like to fix before getting on the water. The keel is pretty worn from beaching the boat. The paint/gel coat is rubbed off for about 3 feet by 3 inches along the keel. The fiberglass looks fine, but I would like to know if I need to apply more fiberglass or if I can simply paint or gel coat the area. Also, once the repair is completed, I was thinking I would apply a keel protector. Any thoughts or ideas is appreciated. I would like to be able to fix the issue myself without a sprayer, if that helps.

Re: Fiberglass repair questions

I'd just jump Right to the Keel Shield,+ be Done with it........

When properly installed,...... It'll be Fine.....

You will get a better response if you post some pictures - - go to photobucket.

Re: Fiberglass repair questions

I have a similar situation on my boat. Again 'poxy will adhear better to the old Polyester resin in the boat. 'poxy is more water proof and I am also planning to use a keel shield to hide my repair.

Unless you have the time to burn on sanding and polishing the gelcoat, just to have the repair wear off down the road, Bond-o's right..
