Fiberglass repair

I have a new boat that i just put two scratches in. Right where my bow light should go. They are not deep or long, not even a half inch long, but I do not like the way it looks. Appears that it got into the fiberglass. What is the best way to repair this? Also I do not have any experiance in this type of thing, so it would need to be a easy repair or should I take it someplace? What risk do I take not having it repaired right away and waiting until after a few more outtings?

The risk you run is that someone may see it and think you bumped the dock or something, that's about it.

I don't have time to answer at the moment, but someone else may be able explain it, or do a search here on "gel coat repair".

Thanks Ondarvr. I guess I was really wanting to make sure it would be OK to keep taking out before I figured out how to fix it. Wish I had bumped a dock, then it would have at least been when I was using the boat.

New boat .. as in 2010 ?

If so then just wait til you find some warranty issue .. most glass shops will lower the cost of repairs if you have multiple repairs and may save you some cash..

gel chips are fine.. go have fun..

Yes as in 2010. Only had it about a week. Was moving a piece of steel over the bow and my buddys side sliped out of his hand, I did not know it until I heard the bang and scrap. It looks like it got through the gel coat and into the fiberglass a little.

If your worried about water getting in it, take some clear fingernail polish and put in the hole, or better if you can find some that match's the color.
When you fix it, it will have to be sanded out anyway.

Good idea about the fingernail polish. See the Semper Fi at the end of you post. Former Marine?
