fiberglassing deck

hello all, I'm replacing the deck on my 19' galaxy, my question is do i use an epoxy to attach it to the hull or just fiberglass it in. Which brings me to my next questions, how many layers of fiberglass should i put down, i'm using the mat. I'm about an hour away from getting the cap off and after that i'm hoping to have the floor done by tomorrow night and fiberglassing on sunday. also how should i attach deck to stringers, stainless steel screws, thanks for all your help

hi....you can use epoxy but that is over kill.

use stainless screws to hold the deck down.....BUT..drill the holes for the screws....fill the hole with 4200 then insert the screw.

2 layers of chopped strand matt, one top layer of finishing veil ( 6 oz) and gellcoat

oh....and dont forget to glass the under side of the deck....just one layer of matt there

Matt on the underside? I have always read you just have to resin coaty the underside and edges...?

resin by it self is very brittle...it needs the glass.

you know the hardened resin on the edge of your glassing pot?....yep...thats how brittle it is....the underside of the deck WILL last longer by just coating it.....bit for the extra 10 bux and 20 mins labor....why not make it permanent?

OOPS is 1000% correct ESPECIALLY with Poly Resin. You MIGHT get by with just Epoys resin and NO mat and I said MIGHT but NOT with Poly. CSM is cheap and takes 15 to 30 mins more time and like he says it is then Permanent and much stronger. Use the mat.
