Fiberglassing floor question

Hello all,

I'm going to fiberglass my new floor and just not sure how many layers of fiberglass cloth do I need?
Can some one direct me what type of fabric do I need because I know there are many types.
And is there any alternative to the carpet? I used to have carpet and I would rather put something else but I?m afraid that it is going to be slippery.
Please advice.

Thanks

Alex

Re: Fiberglassing floor question

what type of cloth is easy, it all depends what is underneath it, and if you need the strenth or not, I recently had my alum boat sprayed with rino lining, the same stuff that goes in the back of your pickup truck, I'm very pleased with it, comes in many colors just look in the yellow pages for truck liners

Re: Fiberglassing floor question

One simple layer of 6oz fiberglass cloth will be just fine for the main floor surface. The rest depends on the boat. If it is a fiberglass boat, I would glass the joint of the floor to the hull sides with a structural glass tape (biaxial or other).

You can use a paint with a non-skid additive or you can use a product like Tuff Coat available from Cabelas. The latter works really well.

Yeah - I thought about this sprayed lining as well but I wasn't sure how it's going to work.

I got fiberglass boat. How is this tape should be applied?
Do I put resin fabric and this tape at the same time or I put cloth first and allow it to cure and then use tape to glass it to the hull? Or overlap cloth that I would cover hull and then fiberglass it?

What will work better?

Thanks

Re: Fiberglassing floor question

Check out armacoatings.com. They have several types of coatings instead of just one like the other spray in liners(not saying that rhino or line-x are not quality products) . They have a marine section on their website.
