FiberKing boat

Hey guys I'm new to the forums so this might be in the wrong place. We recently got a boat as part of a trade. The hull is good and transom as well. However the floor is needing to be replaced.

What I wanted to know (if possible) is what did I get? I measure the boat to be 16' from bow to stern and it has a small plastic name plate on both sides of the stern with FiberKing written on them.

From what I've gathered they're a manufacturer out of Tennessee that went out of business I think in 2001? I think the boat has to be 29 years old because it has a ramp permit from somewhere in Connecticut for 1983.

Tried looking for a capacity plate or even a Hull Identification Number, but no dice. It was clearly repowered with a 50hp Evinrude but the year on that one is missing, but I think I know where to find it.

So if anyone can help identify the boat, I'd really appreciate it. Or at least let me know something about it haha.

I've read about fiberking bombers. Are those by fiberking or Bomber? My boat suspiciously looks like this boat (it belongs to another member here):

If there is no HIN the boat is a 1974 or older. It wasn't until 75 that it became a requirement for HIN's. My '71 MetCraft doesn't have one either. If you give me the model number off the plate if it's still there I can look up the year.

That said - the old Fiberking plant is about 3 miles from me right now They made the Bomber boats (not sure if there was a second manufacturer out there going by "Bomber"). Check on the back of your transom, just below the rub rail and see if you can find a HIN stamped into the fiberglass. MOST of their boats were built after HINs were required, so there is a good chance there's a number there. The MIC for Fiberking is FBK, so that should appear in the number somewhere.

Here they are. After the good tip I scoured the transom and this is the only number I found. Hopefully this is the HIN.

Not sure if that is the HIN or not (should be 9 numbers after the MIC) but the last 4 could indicate boat made in October 1972? However, PPL is the MIC for " Florida FBGLS Shop " in Clearwater

Yeah, she's lookin' early 70's - and I'm not sure that the bowrider looks right for any of the Bombers I've seen. I haven't seen them much with the jump seats up there. No capacity plate up near the helm?

If the floor is shot, I'd look over that transom real carefully and make sure it's solid. There's a lot of work on that boat ... for the same amount of money it'll take to fix it you can probably get something that's ready to go. (FWIW)

Yeah I think we're looking around the 70's in my opinion. I searched the hull up and down and there was no capacity plate anywhere. Other than the floor, the hull and the transom are practically perfect (other than the paint, which is peeling pretty bad). I really took the boat because the 50hp evinrude ran. If I can't figure out what this is, I might just scrap the hull. I have a line on a really nice 15' hull that I might use.

I've got a Bomber made by Fiber King, and have seen a couple of others. This boat doesn't look like any of the ones I've seen, and that HIN number you found seems to agree that it's not a Bomber.

As far as the transom being solid, seeing the condition of the deck I'd be suspicious. I'd suggest running a drill bit halfway through the transom from the inside in a few locations to see what the wood looks like (DON'T go all the way through). If it's dark or damp the transom has problems, the shavings should be bone dry and light in color. If it checks out ok you can just seal up the drill holes with any good sealant like 3M 5200.

Are you sure the transom is nearly perfect?

The big orange rust spot on the bottom left of that pic looks pretty gnarly to me and I'd be curious to see what the inside of the transom wood against the hull looks like.

I really took the boat because the 50hp evinrude ran...

If that's one of the 2 cyl 50HP 'rudes, they're great motors. Even the electric shift ones are hard to kill. Definitely keep that.
