Hi all,

The most novice question of all but..

How do you fibreglass? I have looked but people talk as if you know how to do it, and I don't!

Ive got a small 8ft 3 point hydroplane project and want to fibreglass it.

Now, could someone give a simple 1. 2. 3. kind of thing

Thanks

Thanks for that but im on a budget and less I spend the better, and I know youre going to say spend $23 rather than risk messing up a whole boat.

But. Please anyone??

e.g.
1. rub down with sander
2. make sure its hot day
etc etc

td is right.......

glassing is a chemical process...get it wrong and ittl break..

read the book.
sorry to be blunt, but the stuff is expencive, if you cant afford the book ...go to the libarary, and as your learning, save your sheckels, till you can afford the glass and resin.

but in a nutshell...

put on protective clothing and safety gear...
coveralls, goggles, breathing mask, (get a good one) and gloves.

do this only in a well ventelated area.

rough up the old glass.....
clean with acetone.
cut glass to fit.
mix resin according to manufacturers directions.
roll in some resin.
place glass.
work the resin into the glass totally...it must be soaked with resin.
add more resin as needed.
work out any air bubbles trapped under the glass.
wait till it starts to kick.
repeat as nessary.
how many times you repeat depends on the repair, or stress on the area.
could take several layers.

it sounds easy...it is. but theres a lot to mixing the stuff...read the book.

hope this helps
cheers

Use the roller thingy to spread the smelly sticky stuff onto the itchy stuff and shortly after that you have fiberglass!

Just kidding.

The best way to learn is read all the info you can. Tons of info online.

Also find a local fiberglass supplies distributor. (The place where the boat shops and repair facilities buy from). If you are buying supplies from them they should also give you plenty of technical info.

I have a composites application guide I can email you if your interested.
