Anything good or bad about Mercury, Johnson,Evinrude? I am still debating whether going 2 stroke or 4, I was told the Optimax is <br />superior to the others???? Looking at the 90hp but I don't think the Optimax has come out with a 90 yet,but soon.
Hi, Quin.<br /><br />Both the early (pre-2001) Ficht engines and the Optimax have had problems with the injection systems.<br /><br />"The Optimax is superior to all others" sounds like a typical boast and should be taken as such.<br /><br />The Yamaha VMAX HPDI has seemed far more reliable; I haven't seen problems here or on other boards I visit.<br /><br />At 90hp your choices are one: Bombardier's Evinrude DFI. It seems that Bomb's improvements to the system formerly known as Ficht have worked.<br /><br />I prefer EFI 4 strokes. Having said that I have guaranteed you dozens of inputs about 2 vs. 4 strokes.<br /><br />Good luck.
