Hello

I was doing a waterpump job on a 1991 standard gearcase. It seems the Filler block plate is permanently in the gear case, It cannot be removed.

When I did work on my XR4 gearcase the filler block came out and had to be permatex'd before install. Part looks like this, PART 65...

Just wanted to make sure that the filler block is infact in there permanently and do I still need to permatex it to seal it up?

Thanks,
DamianJP

You need a bead of sillycone of some kind across the top. What I do is put a bead of permatex blue on it, let it skin a bit, and put a very thin coat of oil or grease on the mating part of the mid. That way it stays intact when I pull the foot. (annually) and I can just bolt it back up.

Without the sealant, the water pump housing can overheat from exhaust.

hope it helps
John.

Thanks again John

Cool little trick, gotta try it. What about the side and underneath the filler block, it seems totally sealed up because it's permently in the gearcase, should I still permatex it along those seems just in case?

Thanks,
