filling voids in plywood

im pretty well convinced to use exterior doug fir a/c as my plywood for my build after cutting paterns ,,,should i use plain epoxy to fill the voids in the end grain /sides or use a additive ...

I assume you would be using it for flooring? If you have the time and space I would under mix a batch of epoxy by about 10% and add 5% acetone. Place your wood, bottom side up and roll the mixture on with an adhesive/resin roller sleeve. Make lots of wet passes on the edges. <br /><br />After you roll it I would tip it with a disposeable 2 or 3" chip brush to knock down the air bubbles left from the roller.<br /><br />Leave it sit for a couple of days. If it has kicked off I would wipe it down with acetone, if not just proceed to next step. Mix up a regular batch of epoxy and recoat using the same application technique as above.<br /><br />For the top of the flooring I would give it the same treatment once it is installed in the boat.

Ayuh,............<br /><br />And,... For filling Voids,.. Add a little Cab-O-Sil to your mix to create a "Putty"............

What does the acetone do? Does it thin the epoxy? Why wipe down cured epoxy, amine blush?

i just baught the marine grade plywood after seeing all the work /drying steps i would have to do with the exterior a/c ,,i cut into one of the footballs evan and it seems solid no voids and 7 layers at 3/4 inch...62.35 a sheet...

Ok but your gonna rot just as if you had used the Exterior plywood without epoxy. Marine is just a better surface not a rot free piece of wood. For that you needed treated plywood. Thats the green rought stuff.<br /><br />Best bet is to coat the exterior plywood with two coats of epoxy. Don't worry about voids just make sure you brush the sides every time you do a surface. <br /><br />Marine is when you build the boat not replace the floor.

<br /><br />Thats the good side of the best exterior plywood I found was 20 for 4x8 and 15/32 thick. The other side is just as smooth but more knots. Thats the first coat on the top and edges. I flip over and do the bottom and the edges again in 24 hours.<br />Flip and do the top last time and less than 72 hours there is no need to sand or acetone. Flip and do bottom and edges. Edges get 4 coats top and bottom 2. Thats enough don't you think?

its for a transom ,im using epoxy ,,,the marine ab fir looks much better than the exterier a/c fir ,,,the pieces i looked at looked horible on the c side giand holes etc ,,,you could see voids on the side plys etc ,,,,,for 25 dollars more i baught the marine grade which is very solid and i got a/b with all repairs made...now my stringers will be marine grade also .....all sides are sanded on the marine also ...less work there i think......yea the glue looked the same ...i also live somewere were i cant realy work with the wood ,so having it pre sanded and all fixed up realy helped
