Filter in the fuel tank of an Aurora deckboat?

Long time forum member but I think this might actually be my first post.
Having some issues with my 2004 Aurora 2000 with a Johnson 115 on it. My question is more about the boat, not the motor, so bear with me... Only having issues at WOT(wide open throttle), starts fine, idles OK, runs good all the way up to WOT, then stumbles and misses every couple of seconds. New plugs, new gas, new fuel filter/screen on the motor right before the fuel pump. I don't think it's bad gas or it most likely would stumble at all speeds. The primer bulb on on the fuel line seems low at WOT and if I keep squeezing it during WOT it seems to resolve the issue. So either dying fuel pump or clogged tank/lines.
So the boat question.... It's got the 52 gallon poly fuel tank, aluminum fittings where the fuel line exits the top of the tank. What's actually inside the tank? There has to be either a rubber or aluminum tube inside the tank going to the bottom. Is there a filter inside the tank though? I'm thinking if it's a rubber hose inside, it may have deteriorated and sucking in some air. Regardless of aluminum or rubber, if there's some type of filter on it, it could very well be clogged. It's proving to be a big pain in the rump getting the fittings off, and I'm not sure it's going to tell me anything anyhow. To make matters worse, the fuel sending unit is on the other end of the tank and you if you remove it, you still can't see what's at the fuel line side.
Anyone ever had a tank apart to determine if there's a filter other than the one on the outboard?

Thanks, TJ

Sounds like your right on with the lack of fuel diagnosis. For the screened end on the pick up, it may very well depend on the tank manufacturer, get the make and model number then search for the tank online. I would also check the anti-siphon valve in the tank to see if something is jamming up in it.

Hey TJ! The last Johnson I ran was '78 and probably a lot older than what you're running. I do remember having to rebuild the fuel pump on it. I'd recommend borrowing a 6 gallon portable tank from a friend and bypass the boat tank and fuel line completely.

The symptoms you saw could come from a weak pump on the motor or bad fuel line.
