filthy fuel tank

how do i get a fuel tank for an old 48 johnson sea horse 9.8 horse clean and whats up with the lack of water pump am i missing something

Don't know your motor but this works reasonably well.<br /><br />I'm assuming it's got sludge and scale in it.<br /><br />Put a couple of handfuls of nuts (the type that go on bolts, not the ones you eat!) in the tank. Shake them around dry to dislodge the loose scale. Add a bit of fuel and shake some more to break up the sludge. If the sludge won't move use degreasing fluid. Keep shaking the nuts around until it's clean.<br /><br />You can put water and detergent in if you want but you'll need to give it a few rinses with metho (denatured alcohol in US?)or acetone to remove the last traces of water. Then a few rinses with petrol.

I would wonder if that thing is air cooled. If it is you had better use the correct oil to mix with the gas. Kind like used for chainsaws and such.
