Re: Final Complaint - LI Bayliner Dealer

If you don't like the price then shop somewhere else. Why are you bitchin about it? Yu get different prices from gas to groceries, it's called free enterprise.

Yes, I agree with the concept that different places may charge different prices for the same item. I wanted to point out what I thought was a "huge" markup on an item that they make money from even if they charge the minimum MSRP.

You know, I don't know you, but I think that if you bought a car and the dealership overcharged you 30% for the price of the car, and your friend was thinking of buying a car, you would warn your friend that he/she might look somewhere else to compare prices.

That was my intention. Helping someone who might be in a similar situation and not bother checking with another dealership because he/she might think all prices are the same since it's the SAME PART MANUFACTURED BY THE SAME COMPANY AND SHIPPED TO THE SAME REGION.

Re: Final Complaint - LI Bayliner Dealer

Some of the comments I read are rather harsh. It seems to me that if you don't want to read a complaint, you simply click on to the next thread rather than take the time to read and then insult the person who started the thread. Hey, but I guess that's how you demonstrate your manhood.

On a related note, it seems that several people have the attitude that dealerships may charge and may do whatever they want. This thinking is probably shared by dealership owners and I guess some on this site may be dealership owners themselves. I'm a consumer advocate. I tend to like the guy who works 12 hour days and gets some enjoyment out of his boat with his family on the weekends. Maybe boating should be left for the rich for whom an additional $470 for the same part makes no difference.

Google used boat parts or ebay.It is going to take alot of time but I bet you find it used,If the people at the yards don't have it ask them who will.I agree with the glass place but I bet it is curved.I had the same problem with a Bayliner Capri curved windshield it was 700.00 I found it used for 200.00.

In today's day and age if you don't know to shop around your deserve to pay whatever price they can get out of you. I don't know if it's fair to point out a particular dealer though. It is that way everywhere. I recently had to buy a coupler for my boat. Checked with two dealers, NAPA and online. Online was cheapest, but NAPA was the next cheapest and four days quicker. Bought from NAPA. I am not tearing down the dealers cause they were anywhere from 40-75 dollars higher than NAPA. It's just business.

I pointed out that the dealer in Connecticut was a lot cheaper than the dealer in Long Island.

So it's ok for dealers to charge whatever they want, but it's unfair for me to report where I got a good deal? That doesn't seem fair.

Many feel it's ok to get ripped off by boat dealers. It's expected to get bad service and be charged high prices. Why?

I am see a new boat owner who bought a used boat through a big dealer and expected to be treated fair and have the dealer deliever on there sales promises

The only difference between him and me is i have had enough problems after buying 5 boats over the last 26 years to know the dealer is not going to deliver on there sales promises without a lot of grief

Going back to my J-24 in 1981 with the leaking sideways battery and 57 missing running rigging parts when the boat was splashed in jamesport

OR my NEW 19' powerboat they put the wrong prop on, HOW would i know a 23" pitch prop was two big for a 3.0

Which is a SAD but true fact for a big sector of boat dealers and the things that protect you from car dealers do just not exist for boat dealers in this area YET

I guess I read the post wrong I didn't realize you bought it from the highest priced dealer. If you did without shopping around first then lesson learned. If you didn't buy from the highest priced dealer, but from a cheaper dealer no on ripped you off they were just higher priced.

Jeez, I just don't get what is so hard to understand about the difference between commodity type items and items that are available from only one source. Not only is the price on your Pepsi out there to be seen, you could have bought a Coke instead. Is this above your head or are you just obstinate?

Enough, FREE ENTERPRISE, charge what you can get.

I think you've got it, pretty much like all the petrolium companies today. OK a silly question, when you come upon a guy lying on the ground unconcious what do you do first...............check his wallet of course. Its free enterprise uncensured. Just a grin so dont be weird.

I see your point. Yet, you could've made your point without implying I came here to cry about it. I guess no matter how much you are willing to pay, you will never be able to have class.
