I bought a Liquidvac top side oil changer to change my oil with in my 4.3 liter Mercruiser. Pumped it up and started sucking the oil out. When the oil stopped flowing I felt of the container and said to myself there is no way this thing got all that oil out. I got a small pan and put it under the drain plug and removed the plug. To my surprise only a few drops came out of the oil pan. The liquidvac really worked. Now if there was some way to get the oil out of the filter before removing it I'd be set with no clean up.

Not familiar with the oil filter setups on all boats, but depending on the layout and position of filter, some guys punch a hole in the filter and drain it into something, then remove it mostly empty. Removing it full of oil is always messier.

Can you get a zip-lock bag over that filter before you unscrew it to catch at least most of the oil?

I guess it depends on what they do for the $125.oo. Most places do more than just change the oil. :)

I use a supermarket plastic bag over the filter...it's like picking up after the dog...:D

if you have the space cut a 2 liter bottle in half and use it. easier to handle than a plastic bag. save the other half for next time or i use it to change oil on truck.

Did this product come with an adaptor to screw on to the dipstick tube or did you have to run a hose down the tube into the pan?

the dipstick tube does not reach as far down in the pan as the plastic tube will....the dipstick projects out of the tube when installed, you won't get all of the oil out.....

MT I was very surprised at how well it worked sucking the oil out. When I removed the oil pan plug to drain what oil was left only a few drops came out.
The instructions tell you to mark the plastic tube the length of the dip stick and then slide it in until it bottoms out making sure that it goes in past the mark on the tube.

NO!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT USE FOR FUEL OF GAS

it says the seals inside the pump are leather and will be destroyed by the fuel and gas
