Finally figured out the manufacturer!

A few weeks back, I posted a picture of a boat and asked for assistance with identifiying it. I finally got some more pictures from the gentleman who wants to trade for it. It's a '76 Arrowglass, and seems to be in decent shape. Any advice/suggestions/info? He wants to trade for a '93 Ford Ranger that is currently taking up space in my driveway, so it wouldn't hurt my feelings to get rid of it!

i think the truck is worth more than the boat. check for soft spot in the deck, sound the transom for rot. have him start the motor, check compression on all 6 cylinders, 100 + within 10 % of each other. check lower unit for water. 30 year old motor, but most parts are still available.

Considering the truck needs a new transmission, paint job, and power steering pump, I think it would be an even swap... I did notice the spot towards the transom where the flooring is coming up- it almost looks like linoleum.

Impulse is a weird thing dude. If you look the boat over, and it can float and not leak like enough to sink, then go for it i guess. I would hate to be the dude that traded an ok boat for a truck that goes to hell, or vice versa. just be up front with your trade issues, and hope he is with his.. Good luck.. I wouldn't want any part of it.

Hi griflog , Depending on where you live ,I'd recomend you verify the other guy has all the required paperwork too . Would be a bummer to get stuck with a boat you like and not be able to register it.......

I had an old ArrowGlass that was an i/o. I had to replace the stringers, but it was a fairly easy job.​

All paperwork is present- the boat was used all last summer. This is a serious question- all of the other "project" boats I've seen on here have gotten relatively supportive comments from everyone (including ones that look much worse than this one). All I have gotten seems to be negative. Is it the manufacturer? The condition of the boat? What am I missing? I have been wanting to restore a boat, and this seems to be the perfect opportunity. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I don't think anyone is attempting to be "negative". I myself (as with others here) have "been there done that" and are just offering strait shooting advise. Everyone knows how a good "deal" can sour very quick and become a never ending nightmare. My boat was a lot worse to start but I tried to know all the facts and got everything in writing... as with your swap , i'd make sure you give full disclosure in writing so it dont bite you. If the roles were reversed I'd probably do it -I'd guess the ford won't float as well as the boat.

And trust me, I appreciate all the advice I can get! I have been totally upfront with the gentleman about the truck- he knows what it needs. My feeling is that he has no interest at all in the boat, as he received it from a family member who can no longer use it. He feels like he is getting rid of something he will never use, and I feel the same about the truck. I agree something needs to be in writing, and I am working on that. I am going to his house in a few days to check out the boat, and he will be able to see the truck. After seeing it first hand, rather than thru pics, then I'll have a better idea of what I'm getting myself into.

I know first hand that being at the right place at the right time can be worth more than a wallet full of money. Essentialy a guy I know told me if I was willing to take down his old metal shed , I could have the old project boat trapped behind it. Boat, motor + trailer! The interior + transom were hacked out , but a project I was eager to tackle. If the deal is good to you ; that's all that counts.
