Yeah the seats open up !!! and there is plenty of space under each one ! Can't seem to sell the 85 so i might just bolt it up and call it a boat... transom is "soft" but shouldn't be a problem for this coming summer, just need a good trolling motor which i'll use 99% of the time anyway ! As a few people suggested keep the 85. The boat Gods stepped in and deemed it 'unsellable' giving you no choice but to run it the way it was outfitted. As also noted you do have some extra weight so the tandem trailer and 85 will be a the best fit.Take your serial number to oldmercs.com to find your model year.

Yeah, the boat gods are not joking, i dropped the price down 200 online and still no real bites lol... I want to find a 10-15 to kick it, resell that 50 i just got a few weeks ago, and start patching/cleaning up some small things around the boat (noticed it had a small leak bottom of transom/hull where it connnects an inch below the drain plug, got some stuff at cabelas to patch it) Also, the steering cable is soooo stiff its really difficult to steer the 85hp, any idea how i can find out what style/lenght i need to replace it ? any idea where i could get a good used one for cheep, i seems most new ones i see online are around 150-299

Nice rig, that 85 will do better than the 50, that decking does add some weight I'm sure.

Great boat, I'd keep that Merc rather than sell it for $200 also, I agree with you. If you lived any closer I'd buy it from you:)

Good luck to ya!

No that was supposed to be just a general link. I messed up and ordered mine a foot too short. I think I got a 14 and you want a 15.

Nice find!!! You've got one heck of a rig there. Perfect for your purposes just the way it is. Definitely keep that 85HP and tandem axle trailer. Something non-slip on that diamond plate will serve you well. You can use 3M Undercoat. One rattle can will be plenty. You can put down strips of masking tape, and paint strips of the undercoat. It'll still look good and give you good traction when wet. The stuff has a nice textured surface. You can also get a really good non-slip paint from iboats.

Good luck with her, and have a great time crabbing and putting around!!!

I didn't have to remove anything aluminum when I did the transoms on either of my Starcrafts. The wood was pretty well stuck on my SS and I tried a number of things to get it free. What finally worked was prying up on it from inside with a 2x4. There should be a couple inches of it at either end not covered by the aluminum channel it sits in.

I'm having trouble getting the spill tray out... not the dry rot wood =). So i have tons of space to work on the rear transom.

LOL

Just re-read the thread and realized you didn't remove the spill tray by the sound of it... well... mine is on the way out for space sake and to work on a small rivet leak on the bottom of it, any advise of getting it out
