finally got power head removed (1992 90 HP VRO)

...... one burned/molten piston -- some damage to that cylinder head -- very little damage to cylinder....115, 115, 115, and 86 on the bad guy

I could likely rebuild it myself with the tools I already have, and my manuals to save some money, but I have never rebuilt an engine. What I am really after is suggestions on who buy a rebuilt power head from.

iboats deals with some good ones. Give them a look and see what you think. The biggest thing is to determine what caused the damaged piston and fix the cause so it won't happen again.

I think the damage was done well before I got the boat, and then the owner had a marina repair the problem causers. This was likely an overheat issue. The previous owner had almost the entire cooling system replaced in 2006, but the damage was already done. I plan to rebuild the carbs, replace the fuel lines and impeller, etc...

I just want some good opinions of who (online) is good to deal with as far as rebuilds. Should I just do it myself, or is there someone that is trustworthy out there?

I just completed a rebuild on an 85 'Rude 90hp and I had never rebuilt a motor up to that point. It's actually rather simple and in the process you'll learn a lot about your motor. The primary thing to remember is to determine why your piston burned up in the first place so you can fix that problem. Otherwise you'll be right back at square one.

Unfortunately for me, I had a burned piston to begin with which warranted the rebuild only to burn up the same piston again.

If you have the tools and a good OMC service manual, you shouldn't have to many problems putting it back together.

If you're looking for good rebuilders to send it to there are a few around. Mar-Fab in Tenn., Golden Precision in MO., Flagship in Fla., Blackburn in Penn are a few.

I would believe lean running before overheat with only one cylinder cooked. Whatever the failure cause, it WILL happen again unless corrected
