Well after getting all my work done on my boat here she is,ready to fish now, started the motor for the first time yesterday and it was beautiful,a bit rough but i expect that till it breaks in a bit more.Time to open her up and see what she has for power.I'm going to a one to 2 day breakin on my local lake due to a couple of massive fronts coming down here in fl,the wind is going to be howling at 20-30mph,not were you want to be in a 14ft jon boat. The lake is small and protected by a ton of houses and trees so the wind is very minimal.

Here are some pics.

Looks nice, but I see a few problems. Your bow eye needs to be under the bow stop. The bow eye should come up against and under the bow stop when you tighten the winch. This keeps the boat from sliding over the front and into your tow vehicle in a panic stop You have no safety chain on the bow,and no transom tie down.
[On that rig,I'd use a ratchet strap over the sides, and down to the trailer, somewhere just behind the trailer wheels] That would hold the tail down, plus keep the boat centered on the trailer.

20 hp will push that boat nicely.

I have a strap down for it,i just don't have it on now as it just sits in my yard.I only go about a mile down the road so it's not a big concern to me were the front stop is,but i get what your saying.I will see if i can adjust it tom.

Very nice, I bet that thing scoots with that 20 on it. You may need some weight to keep that bow down.

Sweet! Tight lines.

Problem up here is that the water is turning hard. Have to pull out the tip ups now.

Re: Finally got the boat, motor and trailer together/pics

This darn weather is crazy. It's been 20-30mph winds every day since i finished the boat. Now a massive cold front, well for in fl is coming and tom which is thanksgiving it will be only 50's for the high and in the 30's for lows and really windy till ton night. My target date now since the wind is suppose to back off will be friday.I want to run it at least 2-4 hrs on friday, use one to 2 tanks of gas and then i'm going fishing on sat or sun.

Like i stated before(not trying to be right or wrong)i don't believe these motors need a really long breakin so 4-5 hrs is plenty. From all the research i have read, hundreds of sites, and all i could find, most people are 50/50 on whether you even need to do a long breakin at all. Most feel once all the parts are meshed and the rings are seated you accomplished what you need to do.

Please don't get me wrong i'm not going to beat it to death,i'm just not going to baby it and i'm sure not going to be afraid to go wot for periods of time after the first hr or 2.I'm just going to do my best in varying the rpms up and down for a few hrs. From what i read short wot bursts then coming to a complete stop is the very best way to seat the rings,i've read that over 500times on dif sites.Must be something to it.

Well i'm ready to go have fun on friday, sat and sun i hope. Thanks for all the nice posts.

Looks fun to me! Hope all goes well on Fri. Im a firm believer that engines should be driven hard on break in, not only to seat the rings better but also if something is going to break its going to break anyways and might as well get it over with if it lives it will live for a long time. Since its a 4s I would make sure the oil is primed if its never run, you dont want to wash out the rings with fuel.

You'll find this out for yourself eventually but boaters can control the weather. The weather is directly proportional to the amount of time and money you invest in your boat. The more time and money you spend, the worse the weather will be.

Re: Finally got the boat, motor and trailer together/pics

I started it and ran it for like 10min,when i go tom hopefully if the weather holds up as it's again suppose to be very windy i will give it a good 5 min warm up,then i will run it in low gear,no power whatsoever for 15 min to let the parts inside get nice and lubed up then i will give it some throttle and have at least a tank full of breakin, maybe 2.It amazes me,ever since i got the motor on the weather won't agree with me.I don't mind wind, even like 10-15,even 20mph,i fish the back country. The issue is getting there in open water, this boat will beat the crap out of you in a small chop so i have rode in big 3 foot swells before and it's not fun in a 14ft jon boat,i got caught in a ton of Thunder storms with a 14ft jon boat and i only had a 4hp motor at the time and it took over an hr to get home in the lightning, not fun.
