Hello all...glad you guys are around for us newbies!!! Thank you before I even start. OK My head is spinning from all the info here so I need to ask a fwe questions. First I pulled my tank(it was leaking) did a pressure test and found a couple pinholes. So I used JB Weld...ok I bought a lot of it so I kinda just used it all and just basically covered my who tank in it =) Pitting on top rather than bottom??? Anyway...is that bad and now can I maybe spray it with undercoat that they use for cars to seal it up? Sorry if this sounds a bit novelist. I am tearing up the floor tommrow...what for that post =) Thanks again.

I assume you are talking fuel tank?

You do not want to go cheap here. REPLACE IT.

Fuel leaks, aboard boats, can be very deadly.

Thanks for quick response! Pulling floor cause the wood is black from rot. It's my first boat and know I will get a better one in maybe two years or so. I paid only $1000 for it and a brand new trailer cause the guy needed to pay his mortgage. It's an old 86 Dixie Bowrider( which one I don't quite know). So basically just want to boat before summer here in NJ is over. I am sure come tomorrow I will have lots more to ask, of course after doing some searching first. Also I can't find a Poly tank that fits...only have room for a 6 inch deep tank.

Thanks again,

Joe

i think i boats sells tanks......hit the marine store.....i was gonna tell you about the perils of a leaky tank.....mine was right up front by my feet...so i could smell it when it leaked...if yours is in the floor...(six ins thick).....you wont smell it till its too late......

the guy that posted above...(dj) .....has the best method....replace and forget about it.....

when you rip up the floor...(deck...sole) you might find rotten stringers and wet foam.....as well as the transom being rotted.....(these are all very common things).....

if you do find this....its decision time !

If you cannot find a tank with the proper dimensions here, look around in your area for an aluminum welding shop. Take your dimensions with you and explain to em what your looking for. I bet they can build you a tank for cheap!
I had a custom tank built to fit in my boat for less than 200.00, all aluminum 1/8" plate, 18 gallons, and it fits my boat perfectly. Just my .02, Dave
