well i finally found out what the sludge was that was dripping from my outdrive on my wellcraft, leaky bellows! i pulled the whole sterndrive out and am going to replace it. I do have a question though would this be what is causing water to get into both my engine oil and my sterndrive oil? and when i took it out the other day before noticing the driping goo i noticed it hit 250 and was pegged out. i was a stones through from the dock so i got it over and shut it down, i dont know how long it was liek that maybe a minute or so would this cause anything to break in the engine? it still runs and the oil PSI seems to fine although i dont know what normal PSI is for this engine. thanx in advance!

Yes, and now you have "A LOT" of work to do.
The water has been going through the bearings in the bellhousing, and filling the bellhousing full of water. The water gets on the crankshaft causing it to rust which destroys the seal and allows the water in. It's also filled your starter full of water. So you need to pull the engine and fix all the problems. Plus the seal was not designed to keep water out, only to keep oil in.
The drive seal is the same way, only it was probably under water when the boat is not running and allows even more water in.
Those bearing in the bellhosing have also been rusting because water isn't a very good lubricant for bearings. The Ujoints should also be replaced.

that sux balls, the oil/grease miture was fun to play with though. i noticed thats how my old starter got destroyed most likely. so now u think that the place where the shaft comes out is destroyed? u really think i have to pull the whole engine out?
