Finally met my boat for the first time.

Well I got home from my deployment yesterday and I got to meet my 1996 Glastron for the first time. Lets just say there were a few surprises. One thing that has me bummed is that the bulkhead (I think thats what its called) is rotted. Not looking like its too big of a deal, I got it out in one piece so I should be able to use the old one as a model to trace the new one. Right now I havent found any soft spots in the floor, (Im sure they are there, maybe a winter project.) It looks like someone replaced the flooring at one time but did a shoddy job installing the seats (stripped bolts, etc) the transom seems solid, didnt find anything too dishearting there. The bellows are in good shape. Overall as long as I can get her to start in a couple weeks, I should be in pretty good shape. Im content with it. Any ideas how to "waterproof" the new bulkhead?

Secondly, welcome aboard this great boating forum.

As for how to treat the wood material you are planning to replace, do a little research in these forums and see the numerous folks that have done the same thing and how they accomplished it all. A few folks on these forums will most certainly chime in with very good step by step ideas to assist you in your efforts. I see most cover their wood (plywood) transoms, flooring or bulkheads with resin and fiberglass cloth. While there are some differences between one person's advices from another person's advice, the same procedures seem very similar... Follow those ideas and you will have a haul that will last well past the original. The fact that you are on here and asking for the correct ways to do such is the first step...

baahhhahah hello mate welcome aboard n thank u for ur service !!! from what i know and have learned on here , u wanna coat it with epoxy resin all the way around sides n all then tab it in there are serveral threads on here and vids on you tube for u to see how to do it u cut up 1708 in strips and tab all edges , then layer it with the 1708 and cloth there are many different ways and depending on ur budget ????? do some research n ull be fine figuring it out in no time ....

What bulkhead where? With such a vague description, posting pics of the area in question will get you the best help.

PS. I know of a marine thats currently on deployment that bought this Bayliner bridge boat sight unseen. He was told it was in good condition. The whole bridge is rotten .. stringers shot .. transom probably gonners too. I have a hard time understanding the mentality of these people that take advantage of our service members. Im sure most of them kids at that !

If you start w/ epoxy, you need to stay w/ epoxy, and use cloth that is compatible w/ epoxy. Some 1708 is compatible, I'm not sure that ALL 1708 is.

I think its the bulkhead, it is the wooden "divider" between the rear seats and the engine compartment. The original was just plywood with some marine vinyl covering it. It was held in the boat by a total of 8 screws, three on each side and two into the stringers on the floor. Ill try to post pics tomorrow if still unclear. Thanks again guys
