I finally picked one boat out of all of them I've seen for sale. A 1988 starcraft islander 19 footer, 3.0 mercruiser I/O with a mariner 15hp kicker. Just gotta wait for the doc to clear her, gotta make sure all is well before he'll sell. Only bad thing is there's no bimini on it. So I guess I'll be shopping for a used one and if I can't find one I'll be buying one from one of the fine merchants here on iboats.

Sounds like a great one. Got my bimini from here http://stores.ebay.com/safeguardcovers $89-119 unless you want stainless/sunbrella. I just installed it over the weekend and am quite please with it for the price.

Well pictures will be coming very soon, going to pick her up tomorrow, then take all the before the refurbish shots and post them for all to see. Bwada Don I'm in Oscoda by the way. Found the old guy didn,t have the top for her so I gotta buy one, does any body have pics of the mounting of the stock setup? I've never had a boat with a top so this is all new to me. I noticed there were plastic receivers on the sides of the boat inside the cockpit area with like three different indents. Is this for the top?

Welcome to iboats TJB, sounds like a nice rig you are about to purchase.

I pass thru Oscoda every time I head up to Alpena, very nice area. That will be a great boat for Lake Huron.

Good luck and don't forget the pics:)

TJB--

yes, those plastic inserts were for a factory bimini top. but AFAIK, aftermkt biminis don't mate with those bases so you'll prolly just want to remove em.

you can mount an aftermkt bimini either to the flat surface on top of gunwales or to rail if you have a sturdy horiz rail in right place. the factory top on my 64 Starchief (sorta like an earlier version of your boat) mounts on the rail. for same height bimini, rail mount will put the sun-heated top further above your head and feel "airier" but will let in more low-angle morning and late afternoon sun.

bimini will extend roughly same distance in front of and behind the mounting point so decide where you want the shade to be, and that it will clear your windshield etc. Standard top lengths are 5, 6, and 8'. Anchoring straps extend fore and aft from the bimini and will interfere with fishing rods so take that into acct. different quality grades of biminis available, as to both top matl and frame sturdiness....i plan on adding one of the very sturdy stainless fitting/doublewall tubing ones because it will also be a grab rail when i'm climbing up to bow with a fish on.

Re: Finally nailed it down to one choice!!!!

Well I went and picked up my islander today and took a couple of pictures, to bad I can't figure out how to upload them to this site. Tried to even edit my profile picture but it keeps coming up with upload failed. I usually am able to post pics very easily, but this forum is not working like others do ???????? Maybe someone could help me out, I've even read the how to thing but do not see where the upload pictures choice is or even the supposed pics and albums link.

If you get OVERTONS BOAT catalog look on the back cover. They have a really nice bimini top shown there and I think the price is fair. Pugetsound

Yup! She is awesome, perfect for those waters off the mouth of the AuSable River. Nice walleye too!

Cheers man!
