Well all, thanks to the forum and all the help she got wet for the first time in 6 months.

All went well until the high temp alarm sounded and we had to let her cool down.

I think I need another impeller in the leg.

Never the less a very happy moment - thank you.

Put a piece of clear hose in the water inlet line and make sure you're not getting any bubbles coming through....

that sure does look like a really happy skipper. a really big smile for sure... :D

best i understand. for any overheat condition, the impeller is the first place to look. if you've not replaced it in a while. for sure a good place to start. imho, them alpha1 type impellers are pretty fragile and their lifespan is no more than 2 years at best... i like to replace mine every year... i hate overheat conditions... they cause all kinds of malfunctions...

glad your out enjoying your boat.. looks like ya had a great day for a cruise... a beautiful dead calm day.

Thanks Chris, do you mean in the pipe between the transom and heat exchanger ?

Yep dead calm and the hull is a killer - just look at that wake.

Imp was changed 2 months ago but got run dry for 30 seconds.

Got to be it...

Thank you.

Oh well, now I'm confused.

Had the leg off today and the pump is fine ! All the seals etc in place and correct.
Maybe I should start another thread on this.

She is overheating and I don't know why.
Symptoms are as follows -

Not alot of water coming out of the outlets by the gimbal housing.
Over heats causing audible alarm to sound

Things done so far -

Replaced exhaust manifold and riser for aluminium kit one - genuine mercruiser.
replaced 3 inch heat exchanger for a 4 inch - removed end caps and rodded clear..

Any ideas on how to trouble shoot this would be welcome.

Thanks

Ron.

Hi Chris
Thanks for the pointer, but mine seems to be pre alpha 1. Will it still have the cover ? I have the upper in the van and will go look for it.

No such thing as that. You have an 'MC-1'. And yes, it has a plastic water pocket cover. And yes, shearing the bolts is the risk. When I had my shop we made up drilling jigs for drilling out sheared bolts. It's a pita, but it can be done.

Gear oil in the bellows is usually a sign that the front seal in the top box is leaking. Usually the yoke has a groove where the seal runs and it needs to be 'speedi-sleeved'. (google it)

Thanks Chris.

A mite more work than initially expected but time to do it now while things are dismantled.
Will research the tools / parts and procedure via the site.

Thanks again.
