Still looking !!!!
Mrs Ken is constantly looking at the classifieds !!!!!
If she finds "the one" there will be much more justification in spending the money !!!!
No matter what, we will be keeping this one for the cottage trips.
Thanks for the compliment on the boat though. I seem to get her a little shinier each season !!!!
All the children (5) and their significant others are eagerly awaiting this years cottage trip (2 weeks this year)
I guess the fuel bill will be a lot larger than the last couple of years though !!!!

The gas bill will surely be higher!!! Bet you don't want to trade with me though.....$1,250.00 to fill it up now. I get 11 hours of cruising on that! I was still out all weekend though.

I will stick with my gas bill thanks !!!!!
About $120 to fill up and gets me about the same hours cruising as you get. (maybe a little less) or about 3 hours at WOT !!!!
When we go cottaging I fill up every day and sometimes twice !!!!
I do not really care though as this is "our" family time !!!! I hardly ever see the boat at the dock. Our children are all between 20 and 28 years old, all have their boating certification and we can not believe how responsible boaters they all are !!!! My wife says they have learned the respect from me but I dont know about that !!!
A neighbour of mine offered me $6,000 for our outfit about 2 weeks ago but I declined because I know what we have and we will keep it as long as it stays in one piece !!!! If we sold it and bought another we would not really know what we were buying !!!!!

Re: Finally Ready for the Season !!!

Your boats looks mint condition , do you keep in the garage when the season ends ? I just had mine unraped and ready . Wish I had a place to keep it inside during the winter .

I'm having a hard time removing surface rust on my SS swim latter and trying to figure out how to bring back the bright white on the vynil seats .

enjoy the seaon while gas prices are at it's lowest lol!

I give the seats a couple of coats of Armorall before the winter and again in spring. I keep mine outside next to the garage during the winter. I have the standard nylon winter cover and a huge tarp over that. Mothballs and downy sheets all over the place inside and never had a rodent intrusion yet.
Surface rust on stainless is a tough one but if you do not mind a "brushed" effect clean it off with scotchbrite using the same direction, spray laquer it for the boating season and grease it up for the winter.
Like I said earlier our boat is the "family pet" everyone loves and respects it.
I put a steel gauze over the plug hole to keep things from getting in but it will still let water out if any gets in.
She is in good shape for her age and a lot of "elbow grease" keeps her that way.
With the 140hp on the back it suprises a lot of people. We have pulled up 4 experienced skiers a couple of times with our "hole shot" prop in place.
Floor and transom are still solid as a rock. As I said earlier the boat is not for sale even if we upgrade to a bigger one.
PM me as the season is coming to an end and we can talk "winterising" if you like.
We will put up with the gas prices because we basically have to !!!!!
Glad you like the look of our boat.
Enjoy yours, it looks great.

Hey!

Your boat looks like it's in really good shape! 16ft boat must scream with a 140 outboard!

Re: Finally Ready for the Season !!!

I'm thinking about putting a second coat of wax is this overkill , cause the boat is pretty much docked at the marina all season .
I was thinking about using scotchbrite .
there are so many cleaning products out there , guess it's trial n' error . Is there any that could damage the upholstery ?

Thx for the info

She pulls around the 50mph mark more or less no matter what load is aboard. gained 5mph by raising the motor about 1.5 inches. We generally cruise at around the 30mph mark. This is a really comfortable speed and economical as well. Way fast enough for tubing and skiing. We very rarely put her "full out" unless some "boy racers" in their heavily financed outfits decide to show us how good they are !!!! and it is safe enough to show them some 23 year old Johnson wake !!!! and let them share the special smell of 2 stroke exhaust !!!!!
Thank You for your comments.

The more wax the merrier in my opinion. The hull can never be too smooth !!! I have never used anti fouling paint. I just dont like it. I am never in the water for more than a month at the marina as we take the boat for camping weekends and on vacation so I power wash and a quick coat of wax each time we come out.
Armorall is what I have found best for all the vinyl upholstery. Some of the "power" cleaners can cause more harm than good.
The scotchbrite will leave a good "brushed" finish as i said earlier but you must keep it in the one direction for best effect. There are a few actual stainless cleaners around but you will have to work at it to get good results. I have not found one that is a one shot deal. Others may have a better idea on this one.
We are looking forward to another 23 years from this boat. It will have some antique value by then !!! LOL

Rust on brand new SS latter? What kind of SS is Doral using?! ;) But seriously did you leave the boat in the salt all winter?

You can start with a metal polish like Autosol. Comes in tube and has a cream form. You just rub until clean.

My boat is an 07 and never was in salt water . It was winterized by my humble dealer.
Doral says 316 SS , but maby not everywere I'm guessing ? I'll take some pics but I'm horrible posting them .

Re: Finally Ready for the Season !!!

Thanks guys, we are very proud of our little boat. Not many 164's around. I saw one at the cottage last summer that was in average condition with a 90 on the back and believe it or not one went the other way tonight on my ride home from work. Blue one with what looked like a 85 hp merc on it. Hope I see it again.
I will head for the water as soon as the weather is good enough here. Right now we have North winds on Lake St Clair and that means rough waters for us on the south side of it. If the wind changes to south we will be out !!!! immediately.
