Finally!! This youngster has a job!!!

I was getting worried! I haven't been able to find a job with my new airplane mechanics license. Well, low and behold, I got a job at the biggest Airbus maintenance facility in North America, only 70 miles down the road from all my family and friends working on Airbus and Boeing airliners!!! Hello!!!

Nothing like the feeling of the company you dreamed of working for calling you out of the blue and saying "We now have a few openings available for new junior mechanics, would you like a job?" And saying YES!!! and the reply being, "Ok, I'll send the acceptance letter to your email, sign it and return it and you have a job." HELLO!!! Nothing like going from an unemployed iboats bum to an airbus mechanic with one phone call!

This forum needed some good damn news, and I can provide it! Finally, things are looking up!!

That is excellent news - congratulations! The obvious choice for you in better times would have been PHI or one of the other, local oilfield chopper companies, but with all the issues going on now (I'm not saying what for the sake of staying away from politics), that would be a stretch anywhere on the Gulf Coast.

Nice that you were able to get a great job on home turf!

that is great news, with all the news of people getting laid off and others getting sick, hope all goes well and not many times in life does a job come calling for you. you are very fortunate.

I got a great job too, a few months ago. I was employed before, but my old company cut our pay so much it was getting hard to support my family. The only downside is I don't have all the time I used to for surfing iboats on the job

PHI didn't hire me, I interviewed and they told me no. I got "no's" from all the heli companies around here except 1, which didn't give me so much as a second glance so I assumed a "no".

The oilfield is a volatile industry right now. My mechanic school was on the other side of the airport from PHI's main global base, and we heard some horrible things about heli companies. Some weeks they were hiring, other weeks firing. We'd hear of their going to be 200 layoffs here, and a few positions open there. And with the moratorium, it's even worse now than ever. I couldn't get on with a single local heli company, not even the heli school in New Iberia. Nobody is hiring.

I got on instead with a huge company that is much more stable working on airliners. Since the gov't makes sure they don't fail, that gives my job a bit more security than a private company like PHI that can fail or fire tons of people and nobody care. Bobby Jindal even went there in Feb to announce they were hiring over 300 new people. That's awesome. Since I plan on building a plane soon and I'll be working right there at the airport, that 70 mile gap can be covered in 25 minutes. That's not bad. My family all live close to their local airport so picking me up would be super easy.

And thanks everybody for the kind words. I'm so worried I'll look over enthusiastic. When I get around planes and helis I start getting giddy, like a kid in a candy store.
